A brand logo is the face of a corporation — a combination of colors, typefaces and simple shapes designed to make an image or feeling stick in your brain.
So when those familiar icons are given a facelift, people take notice.
Netflix quietly rolled out a new emblem on Monday with a narrow red capital "N" set against a black background.
flurry of opinions immediately followed on social media. As of Monday afternoon, the closest thing to a consensus seemed to be a general feeling of "meh" toward the new design.
To add some context to the discussion, Mashable decided to round up some other well-known brands that are recognizable by the first letter of their names alone — one for each letter of the alphabet.

A: Adobe's utilitarian logo may be most commonly associated with reminders to update your Flash player.

B: Apple's Beats by Dre brand is stylized to look like a headphone.

C: Comedy Central's logo got a major overhaul in 2010.

D: Disney's cursive typeface is one of the most recognizable on Earth.

E: E! Entertainment, unlike Yahoo! and Jeb!, is one of the few brands that can pull off an exclamation point with dignity.

F: Facebook's logo is so closely watched that a simple slimming down of the "f" prompted a flurry of news stories last year.

G: Google confused a lot of people when it shed its serifs and launched this playful, multi-colored "G" last summer.

H: Hulu's lowercase "h" is pretty conventional by tech company standards.

I: IBM's "I" is the rare company logo that has remained unchanged  for decades.

J: Technically this is only half of Johnson & Johnson's iconic logo.

K: Kellogg's Special K pretty much owns the letter "K," branding-wise.

L: Lexus's hood ornament and logo stretches the dimensions of an "L".

M: The golden arches of McDonald's are one of the most instantly recognizable symbols to people across the world.

N: Netflix's new logo will grace its social media channels and mobile apps, the company says.

O: Oprah has built her entire brand design around the letter "O."

P: Pandora skirts tech conventions with this capital "P."

Q: Quicken doesn't have much competition in the "Q" category.

R: The chain may be half-dead, but RadioShack's circled red "R" still conjures images of strip malls in many people's minds.

S: The Skype logo seems to resemble a heavily stylized phone set.

T: Tumblr's lowercase "t" fits well with the company's disem-vowel-ed name.

U: This is Uber's former logo of course; it's new one looks more like a backwards "C" than "U."

V: Twitter-owned Vine's logo is simple and to the point.

W: Walgreen's often uses a simple cursive "W" for its logo.

X: Microsoft's Xbox has used the same green and gray logo for years.

Y: Yahoo's exaggerated serifs make it one of the most recognizable fonts in tech.

Z: Real estate listings site Zillow is one of few "Z" brands.
